Arch-etype

Our clients approached us with an extension project. However, we realised they weren’t suffering from a lack of space, just a lack of storage and efficiency. We proposed that rather than extend we reconfigure the ground floor and reclad the existing extension to improve the appearance of the back of the house. By reducing the scope of the construction and utilising the existing house not only are we reducing the carbon footprint but also the cost.

A passion for arches and home renovation programmes informed the pergola which extends past the cladding to create a false façade. The view through from the interior looks out to the garden through the arches without invasive construction work or a new build extension. This also has the benefit of shading the large south facing sliding doors.

Unfortunately, a curve ball meant that this one hasn’t progressed to site, but we really hope the approach is an “arch-etype” for future projects.
